United Advisors Wealth Management Case Study

Hosting Solution Provides Flexibility, Reliability

The Background
United Advisors Wealth Management is a fast-growing financial services firm with three key offices in New York, New Jersey and Ohio. The firm’s team of credentialed investment and service professionals travel nationwide to help clients with strategic wealth planning. The company, founded in 2003, continues to expand rapidly through mergers and acquisitions.
The Challenge
United Advisors struggled with to secure an IT staff that could manage the financial software, keep up with technological upgrades and provide a reliable network. By 2006, the firm’s IT network had become a headache with latency issues and down-time on. The company once closed the office for a few days because of a technology system failure.

Hiring IT personnel to install and run new software become a dreaded experience. Response time was slow. The project would cost 10 to 20 times more than United Advisors was quoted and still did not perform as expected. An IT company would return to troubleshoot and fix the issues, but that came with another hefty price tag. Despite technological improvements, the system still lacked the elasticity to allow United Advisors professionals to serve their clients anywhere, any time in a secure, stable environment.

Ready to remove IT headaches and roadblocks, United Advisors turned to the Internet and began researching potential IT solutions. Change could not come fast enough. The firm interviewed three companies nationwide and completed an extensive analysis of the application hosting model. “Our primary concern was to find someone off the grid” to greatly reduce the effects of any outages near the company’s offices on the east coast, said Jaclyn Sandler, vice president of business and client services at United Advisors.
The Solution
Remembering the unexpected costs and reliability issues with the previous systems, Jaclyn asked the three outsource IT providers the tough questions and dug down to the details. She did not want to be disappointed. “Netgain was the only company that said it would test all our software and guaranteed to get it up and running as long as the software was compatible,” Jaclyn said.

With the help of Netgain, United Advisors created flexible environment that would provide secure, reliable service for its employees and highly confidential client information.  The customized IT system connects the firm’s three key offices and creates a virtual office – a critical resource for the employees who spend more time on the road than in the office. “Everything was very easy for us,” Jaclyn said. “I felt like I didn’t have to do much. It was a pretty smooth transition for us.”
The Benefits & Results
By partnering with Netgain, United Advisors boosted productivity and gave its employees desirable flexible work arrangements. Jaclyn and her colleagues work in the backseat of a car while riding to business meetings or in the airport while waiting for their flights. “Wherever we are, we’re all connected. We all have access to each other and our software,” Jacyln said.

The Netgain partnership allows Jacyln and other key firm leaders to focus on their core business and growth instead of trying to fix IT issues for employees. “It’s easy for us to send our employees to Netgain if they have a problem,” she said. Netgain’s Help Desk targets the problem and repairs it quickly, preventing any downtime or lost productivity, she said. The reliability continues to amaze United Advisors. The system has only gone down once and Netgain quickly responded and had it back up and running within minutes.

That superior performance and flexibility did not come with a big price tag, Jacyln said. Partnering with Netgain cost the company about the same as having an in-house IT department. United Advisors pays a set monthly fee it budgeted for and never faces unexpected charges.  “We’ve been very happy with everything and we typically find things wrong with everything,” Jaclyn said.
